I know I’m late to this conversation, but… Jesus fuck.
So many movies and books about the arts are about someone being innately brilliant (cough cough Amadeus, The Fountainhead cough) then facing a jealous, traditionalist world that does not acknowledge or is threatened by their genius, so they have to fight to overcome all the doubters and haters and people who would drag them down so they can let their inner brilliance shine and finally be recognized as a prodigy.
So few of them are about working yourself to the bone trying to have a chance to stand out. Just for a shot at getting close to maybe living up to your own expectations.
J.K. Simmons is the very definition of a supporting actor – he makes the cast around him stand out. If he doesn’t win that fucking Oscar I’m going to throw a cymbal at someone.
